Ol' Dirty Bastard
N***A PLEASE
Elektra Records

"Ol' Dirty Bastard, cause there ain't no father to his style, that's why he da Ol' Dirty Bastard."
-Method Man

After a long awaited period, Ol' Dirty Bastard the most reconizable member of the Wu-Tang Clan a.k.a. ODB, Unique, and Big Baby Jesus has finally put out a new album. N***A PLEASE, his latest release since Return To The 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version has finally been released into public circulation. Until a few days ago, I myself had not heard the full album. I had only heard the single Got Your Money (Featuring Kelis) on the radio that I often turned up whenever I was in the car. After listening to the new album via HiFi my attitude about hip-hop had changed.
ODB has definitely given the world a new style of rap with this album. He rides on the edge of insanity and genious with his own style. He incorporates preaching, insane almost schizophrenic outbursts, and Chris Rock. With this new style I think that ODB should change his name to The Reverend Old Dirty Bastard. While listening to the record I felt like I could be getting ready for a boxing match. It even made me feel like I should be rollin with the Sons Of Man. However beside the point I can tell you that this is an album that should definitely be in anyone's record collection.
All DJs, gang-bangers and any other hip-hop fans should buy the album. It does what we all want hip-hop to do to us. I don't know about you but when I purchase a hip-hop album I expect it to follow a certain criteria. It should posses loud, deep, gangsta ass beats. It should also make me want to move my body in an intoxicated like fashion knowing that I am a true gang-banger. Finally and most importantly I expect to visualize myself dancing with beautiful women at expensive clubs in New York City along with Chris Rock and Puff Daddy, drinking Crystale.
This has definitely fulfilled all my hopes for an excellent hip-hop album. From one to ten (ten being the best) I would give it a ten. Go to your mom's purse, take out the money and go but it right now.

The Get Up Kids
something to write home about
Vagrant Records

The Get Up Kids newest release since Red Letter Day, something to write home about ventures into more of an Indy pop quality. I found the clangy guitars mixed with sissy boy vocals saddening. I recommend the album to quiet teenage girls, people that enjoy crying to music, and depressed sweater wearers. Popalicious!

Snapcase vs. Boysetsfire
Equal Vision Records

This is the newest Snapcase CD I've heard in a long time. They sound like they always have but it would have be better if they could have more than two songs on the album. Boy Sets Fire on the other hand has pushed themselves further into their own unique style. Overall I give this CD two thumbs up, however the title threw me off a little. VS made me think that they would be fighting or competing for a title, championship, or trophy. There was no threat made from one band to the other at any point in the four songs, which made me a little disappointed. If you are going to make it look like there will be a bout then do it right.

NEUROSIS
times of grace
Relapse Records

While listening to the CD I was put into a trance by subliminal messages. Under the trance I carved a bloody skull into my flesh with an exacto knife and began to smack my head on the side of my bathtub while my blood washed down the drain. If you are into dark evil metal and Satan then this could be for you.
